ALS

Aspect Ratio

The ratio of image width to image height. Standard television programming and displays use 4:3 aspect ratios. SDTV allows for display of images at 16:9, while it is a requirement for HDTV.

CF means clean feed - a clean edit of the news item with MIX AND FX tracks as opposed to the PAB (programme as broadcast) which includes the newscaster’s intro and generally has mixed soundtrack only.

SDTV

Standard Definition Television refers to digital transmissions over 480-line resolution, either interlaced or progressive scanned formats. SDTV offer significant improvement over today's conventional NTSC picture resolution, similar to comparing DVD quality to VHS, primarily because the digital transmission eliminates snow and ghosts, common to the current NTSC analog format.
